Year 3 Update

Our learning Weeks 4 & 5
English
In English, we are learning how prefixes can change the meaning of words to strengthen our vocabulary. We are developing our persuasive writing skills by learning how to choose suitable topics and organise our ideas clearly across each paragraph. Additionally, we are practising making connections when reading to improve our comprehension skills. We are also continuing to practise our handwriting to develop consistent letter sizing and neat presentation.
Maths
In Maths, we are learning to use the split and jump strategies to help solve addition problems in different ways. We are also beginning our multiplication unit, focusing on understanding the connection between groups of objects, arrays, repeated addition and multiplication.
Inquiry
Our topic this term is Geography.
We are learning about Australia’s location in the world and exploring some of our neighbouring countries, including New Zealand, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. We are also gaining an understanding of Indigenous Australian cultures, with a focus on language groups and community connections. Throughout this learning, students will be practising their research skills to explore these topics further.
Social and Emotional Learning
In Social and Emotional Learning, we are exploring the emotions we might feel before asking for help and how these emotions can change after receiving support. We are also learning to appreciate the similarities and differences we share with our peers and recognising what makes each of us unique.
News and reminders
Drink bottles:
Please remember to bring a drink bottle to school every day. It saves disruption to your child's learning when this is accessible within the room. They are able to fill up their bottles in a nearby classroom.
Homework:
Students are encouraged to complete one or two activities from the homework grid each week for the rest of the term. Once an activity is completed, they just need to cross it off and write the date in the box so teachers can keep track of what’s been done.
Reading continues to be an important part of homework, and we encourage students to read for at least 10 minutes on 3 to 4 nights each week.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
