VCE-VM WORKSHOP: ALUMNI GUEST SPEAKER
Written by Dalis Phalla (Acacia Alumni captain)
Dale Pryor, a 2017 graduate of Keysborough College, is now the director and owner of his own carpentry business, which he has successfully operated for the past four years. His career pathway demonstrates the value of hands-on learning, perseverance, and early goal setting.
After completing his secondary studies, Dale pursued an apprenticeship, gained further experience through practical work and short courses, and later registered his own business.
In his recent presentation to VM students, Dale offered valuable insight into managing real-world projects, emphasising the importance of planning, budgeting, time management, and regular team communication. He also spoke about the significance of teamwork, respect, and clear leadership, particularly in ensuring safety on site.
Dale highlighted the importance of lifelong learning and shared how he continues to balance business responsibilities with ongoing study. Formerly part of a band called East Vibrations, he reminded students that diverse experiences contribute to personal and professional growth.
A big thank you to Dale for taking the time out of his busy schedule to come speak to our year 10 VPC and year 11 and 12 VCE-VM students. Since graduating, Dale has been incredibly generous with his time and has come back to Keysborough College multiple times to speak of his experiences and share his story with numerous students. His story serves as a practical and inspiring example for students exploring vocational pathways and entrepreneurship.
