Year Four - Spotlight on Learning

Jericho Community

Dear Families,

It was lovely to see so many people  join us for our Mother's Day Breakfast. We hope you all enjoyed our special song. This week we did some assessments based on the novels we have read so far this semester - 'Kensuke's Kingdom' and 'Leo and Ralph.' We have further explored the bar model and compensation strategies in addition and subtraction. We looked further into Local government and what it does.

Next Week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus

Next week we will be creating definitions of what we think Hero/ Heroine means. We will identify qualities we believe heroes have.

English Focus

We will begin to read our new book Uncle X-Box by Jared Thomas. We will also begin to focus on factual recounts exploring British Colonisation of Australia and the Effects on First Nations Australians.

Mathematics Focus

Students will continue exploring addition and subtraction equations. We will be using strategies such as vertical algorithms and fact families. We will be using our knowledge of inverse operations to rewrite subtraction equations as addition or vice versa.

Integrated Studies

Students will be developing our understanding of what is a rule and what is a law? How do these differ and how do they affect us?

Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR

Students will identify ways that they are similar to and different from others. Students will describe things they do that help them to cope with challenges or stress.

Auslan Focus

Students will be learning to sign subjects such as Religious Education, Science and Inquiry. As well as the question: What do we have after recess?
