Year One - Spotlight on Learning
Jerusalem Community
Dear Families,
Week three has been a hive of activity for the Jerusalem community. We have successfully completed our second community mass and hosted our wonderful mothers and mother figures for a special celebration. Here are some special moments captured from our celebrations.
Religious Education focus: We are so proud of the young readers who read confidently during mass. The whole community joined in reverently and sang along beautifully with a considerable number of parishioners who attended. Thank you for supporting our community masses and for helping our students to develop a strong Catholic identity. We also have started our timeline study and will keep adding to it as we learn about biblical events and how our traditions are formed.
English focus:This week we have focused on words that have 'oa' to make the long vowel 'o' sound. Here are some words that can be reinforced at home.
Mathematics focus: We continued to learn how to count numbers over 100. A simple activity you can do at home to improve number fluency is shown below:
SEL: . This week we started looking at the specific words in the feelings continuum and what scenarios might cause these feelings. This week we looked at the word 'coping' this is a tricky word for our students as we still struggle to use it in the appropriate context. We encourage you to use these words at home with your children, when they are experiencing these emotions. At home parents can also use these words to describe how you are feeling. i.e. "I have have a headache but I have coped with work today". "I am not coping with all the washing this week, can you please help me to fold some clothes?
History: This term we will focus on the book 'My Place' by Nadia Wheatly, to learn about Australian History and Indigenous culture. This week we read about Victoria's story from 1888.
AUSLAN: This week we have learned these signs.
Religious Education focus: Jerusalem will continue to learn about Mary, the mother of Jesus as an important figure within the Catholic faith.
English focus: Next week we will be looking at 'Somebody's Land' by Adam Goods.
Mathematics focus: Students will continue to expand their knowledge on Counting and Place Value.
SEL: Students will be learning about specific vocabulary relating to our morning check-in routine.
History: We will continue to work with on our Inquiry question based on the book 'My place'.
AUSLAN Focus: Students will be learning the following signs:
