Dear Parents,

I’m really excited that next week is Book Week!

On the events page are some of the exciting things happening, so please make sure you familiarise yourself with them. The main event of particular note will be on Thursday, when we have our book parade, which will be very exciting and to which all of you are invited.

We do Book Week each year as a celebration of reading. Research consistently shows that strong reading skills are one of the clearest indicators of future academic and professional success. A landmark study by the OECD found that reading for pleasure has a huge impact on a child’s future success. Reading broadens vocabulary, sharpens comprehension, and builds critical thinking skills. When children read widely, they are exposed to different perspectives, cultures, and ideas, helping them develop empathy and vision.

I love the saying that “leaders are readers,” and for good reason. Many successful leaders from business innovators to community changemakers attribute their growth to a lifelong habit of reading. Books provide a safe place to explore challenges, problem solve, and learn from the wisdom of others. Let’s celebrate Book Week and use it as a springboard to encourage our kids to keep reading for pleasure!

Oztag

On Wednesday, our Oztaggers attended the CSSA Mixed Oztag Gala Day. Some photos, as well as a link to our gallery, can be found in the School News tab. They did very well, and we are proud of them.

Sleep

Just a gentle reminder to consider the amount of sleep our kids are getting. I’m hearing from teachers that many of our students are turning up super tired for school. Just a reminder that school aged children generally need between 10-12 hours sleep a night for their bodies to function properly and for learning to take place. Screens should also not be used in the hour before bed time as it can impact sleep quality.

Next week

Mrs Davila and Mrs Gounder will be away from Tuesday to Friday attending the Christian Schools National Leaders Conference. Any urgent matters for them can be directed to the office. We hope their time away is full of valuable learning.
