Junior School News

From the Acting Head of Junior School
As Term 3 begins, the energy around the School is one of renewed energy and enthusiasm, with students returning refreshed and ready to embrace the opportunities ahead.
A special highlight on the day of our return was our Foundation Day assembly and relay. These events continue to remind us about the importance and value of our Pre to Year 12 campus, our shared values, and the history that has shaped our School. It was heartening to see students and staff come together to honour our School's journey, celebrate milestones, and connect with the traditions that continue to guide our path forward. The day was filled with spirit, storytelling, and a sense of belonging that makes our School truly unique.
Before we look too far forward, it’s worth taking a moment to reflect on the final week of Term 2. It was a meaningful and productive end to the semester, marked by student achievements, collaborative projects, and a strong sense of community. We were proud to see our students finishing the term with commitment and pride in their growth.
Grandparents Matinee Performance
We were thrilled to host our very first Grandparents Performing Arts Showcase Matinee, a heartwarming celebration that not only showcased the incredible talent of our students in the performing arts, but it also provided an opportunity to include the wider and much-loved members of our School community. The event was a wonderful success, with grandparents and special guests filling the room with laughter, applause, and pride as they watched musical numbers, dramatic pieces, and dance performances. It was a beautiful opportunity to connect generations, celebrate creativity, and share the joy of student achievement. We are so grateful to everyone who attended and helped make this event so memorable. We are already looking forward to the next one!
Performing Arts Evening
Our K–6 Under the Sea themed Performing Arts Evening was a spectacular success, showcasing the incredible creativity, talent, and teamwork of our students. From the dazzling costumes and imaginative sets to the captivating songs, dances, and dramatic performances, every moment transported the audience into an enchanting underwater world. The evening was a true celebration of our Junior School, with each class bringing their own unique energy and enthusiasm to the stage. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff, supportive families, and, most of all, our amazing students for making it an unforgettable night of joy, wonder, and community spirit.
Leaders Afternoon Tea
In the last week of Term 2, our Junior and Senior School student leaders came together for a special Leadership Afternoon Tea, a meaningful occasion that encouraged and celebrated their collaboration, connection, and shared purpose. Held in a relaxed and welcoming setting, the afternoon tea provided an opportunity for student leaders from both schools to engage in thoughtful conversation, share experiences, and reflect on what it means to be a leader. It was inspiring to witness the mutual respect and genuine curiosity and engagement. The afternoon reinforced a strong sense of unity across the School and highlighted the positive influence student leadership can have at every stage of schooling.
Buddy Program
Our School’s Buddy Program continues to be a highlight each term, fostering strong connections between older and younger students across year levels. Through regular activities, shared reading sessions, and collaborative games, buddies build trust, confidence, and a genuine sense of belonging. It’s a wonderful way for younger students to feel supported, while older students develop leadership, empathy, and responsibility. These relationships not only strengthen our school community but also embody the spirit of care and respect that defines our House values.
Lunchbox Rally
“During the September holidays, I am going to be doing the Lunchbox Rally with my Mum. We’ll be driving out to Broken Hill, then doing a 4-day rally through the South Australian outback, along with 100 parents and kids. Everyone is doing it to raise money for Cancer Council Australia, and the whole rally is aiming to raise $500,000 for Cancer Council.
The reason our car is gold is because gold is the colour of the children’s cancer ribbon. There are two very special little girls painted on the front of the car, both were diagnosed with cancer at three-and-a-half years of age. Lucy was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma and is doing quite well at the moment. Amber was diagnosed with leukemia and unfortunately battled until she was seven when she died.
This rally will give us lots of challenges. We have to fundraise and achieve some high goals. We must finish decorating the car (it can never have too much glitter!). And we have to go on the rally itself, meet other people, camp in the outback, get out of our comfort zone and have an adventure.” - Alfie (P5)
Alfie’s Mum explained to the students when she visited “I’m really hoping to instill a lifetime of charitable work in Alfie, along with a sense of adventure”.

Year 2 Penguin Sculptures
Year 2 has been working hard to create penguin sculptures inspired by the artist Barbara Kobylinska. She is best known for her large, colourful mixed-media sculptures of birds, bugs, and flowers that reflect the natural world with an abstract twist. To create our own sculptures, we used recycled materials such as plastic bottles and applied techniques including sculpting and papier-mâché. We also visited the aquarium to observe penguins and draw inspiration from them. In science, we learned about penguin adaptations and physical features, which helped guide our designs.
As we begin Term 3, we look forward to a term filled with learning, growth, and connection. Thank you for your continued support, and here's to a great start to the new term!
