Library News

Hola from the library!

Read-a-thon is in full swing. If your child would like to participate there is still time and details are towards the back of the newsletter.

BOOK WEEK starts in just over a week! Tuesday, 18 August (Monday is a pupil-free day). Now is the time to start thinking about costumes - something low-key or something fanciful. Who does your kiddo want to be? Tom Gates, Morrigan Crow, Dog Man,  Enola Holmes, a green sheep, a pigeon desperate to drive a bus? We will have an afternoon parade to celebrate our costumes and prizes will be awarded in each cohort.

I am very excited to have a visit from celebrated local author and illustrator Marc Martin on Friday at the morning recess. He has asked that we get our pencils ready - so it promises a lot of fun! We will have many Spanish story-times at the second recess each day and a few other bookish activities.

We have most of the CBCA shortlisted books and many can be accessed at Story Box Library. Login is newlands and password is Library2020. I cannot stress how excellent this resource is and I urge you to take advantage of it.

Scholastic Book Club issue 5 closes midnight this Sunday. There are some great titles this issue. My picks are the new Julia Donaldson picture book Paper Chase, Sally Rippin’s School of Monsters: Snow for Heti.  Adventures on the Dreaming Path by First Nations author Paul Callaghan. Gabrielle Wang’s new middle-grade novel The Silken Thread.  The latest Warrior’s graphic novel. For older readers there is is the mystery Danger Road by Aussie author A. L. Tait (listen to the first chapter here: https://www.yourkidsnextread.com.au/podcast-episode/friday-first-chapters-12-a-l-tait-reads-danger-road/

In other news—we have reinstated Borrower of the Month: our highest borrower in July was our newest student, Maher! It has been so lovely to see you enjoying the library.

NPS parent and ‘Dia de los Muertos’ team-member Abner has volunteered his time in the library every Tuesday at the second recess to host a SPANISH STORY TIME. This week’s was so engaging—make sure your child knows about it.

As always pop in and say hello or email me at Jessica.petrie2@education.vic.gov.au
