Community Access Program

We’re excited to share the relaunch of our Community Access Program, an initiative designed to help students build and strengthen their independent living skills. This program supports personal transition planning and provides opportunities for students to explore community services, gain hands-on experience in workplace settings, and develop confidence and adaptability in real-world environments.

We are incredibly grateful to Muswellbrook Nissan for their generous funding, which has made this program accessible to all students without any additional financial burden. Their support ensures that every student can participate fully, and we sincerely thank them for their commitment to equal access and student development.

Our first outing took place on Tuesday, 29 July, with our Stage 4 students enjoying a day at Rose Point Park in Scone, followed by lunch at Café on Kelly.

  • 🏞️ At the park, students engaged in physical activities that helped develop fundamental movement skills, build strength, and encourage teamwork in a natural setting.

  • ☕ At the cafe, students practised communication by ordering their own meals and engaging in meaningful conversations. They also applied financial literacy skills by managing their own payments, an important step toward independence.

We are proud to say that all students represented St Joseph’s Catholic College with respect and enthusiasm, engaging positively with community members and making the most of the experience. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by both staff and students.

We look forward to continuing the program with our Stage 5 and 6 students in the coming weeks and sharing more of these enriching experiences with our school community.
