Dear Sacred Heart Families,

Our Living Vision provides an opportunity for our school and community to identify how our School Vision is enacted each day. The following examples have been highlighted at our Monday Morning Staff Gatherings by Sacred Heart staff over the past two months.

Animated Learners

Learning about scientific inquiry supports students to be active and animated learners by encouraging them to take ownership of their learning through questioning, exploring, and discovering. It transforms them from passive receivers of information into curious investigators who engage deeply with ideas and seek evidence to support their thinking. This active engagement ignites enthusiasm, creativity, and a sense of wonder, making learning more meaningful and dynamic.

Relationships

The Year 4 camp experience reminded me of the deep importance of relationships. Camp provides a unique opportunity for staff and students to step outside the routine of school life and connect in new and meaningful ways. Relationships between staff are often strengthened during camps as the experience fosters collegiality and collaboration, and often brings many many laughs. Thank you to our Year 4 camp team! Superstars.

History

Over the past two weeks, we have been fortunate to be guided by Cath as she shared insights through our staff meetings about Mary MacKillop, and the history of our Sacred Heart community. We all enjoyed the engaging incursion and appreciated the opportunity to learn together (and laugh) about Mary’s childhood and how she became the very first Saint in Australia. Additionally, those who had the chance to meet or work with Sr Lorraine have been truly blessed by her extensive knowledge, genuine warmth, passion, and dedication to the students and families at Sacred Heart, inspiring us to follow in Mary MacKillop’s footsteps and mission.

Shaping the future of Sacred Heart – reflecting on our purpose, vision & mission as a Catholic school

During today's school closure day, Sacred Heart staff are engaging in important strategic planning focused on the Religious Dimension of our school.

Together, we are reflecting on our purpose as a Catholic community, exploring our shared vision for Sacred Heart and defining the mission that guides our work and relationships each day. We will also strive to identify the values that shape our culture and identify the strategic enablers that will help us achieve our goals, such as responsible stewardship, creating a culture of wellbeing and fostering high performance as possible examples.

This day will provide a valuable opportunity for staff to strengthen our shared commitment to living the Gospel and ensuring that faith, learning and community remain at the heart of Sacred Heart Primary School.

Over the coming weeks, we will also invite you as our parents/carers and children to share your thoughts and insights about what Sacred Heart means to you and your hopes and dreams for our school into the future.

Long Service Leave

I would like to let our school community know that I will be taking Long Service Leave for the remainder of Term 3, beginning today. This will be a special opportunity for me to spend time with family and do a little bit of travel.

Whilst I am away, Cath Palmer will be Acting Principal and leading our wonderful school.  I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Cath for her willingness to take on this responsibility and to the entire school community for your continued support. Cath will be well supported by our very capable and dedicated leadership team and staff  to ensure that student learning and our community life continue to flourish.

Cath's email address will be actingprincipal@shnewport.catholic.edu.au should you wish to contact her.

I would also like to wish the Year 4 children, who will be receiving the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time whilst I am away, a special celebration with family and friends. I am sorry to be missing your special day but know you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Finally, thank you to you,  our parents and carers for your ongoing partnership in your child’s learning and for the many ways you contribute to our school community.  I look forward to returning in Term 4 with renewed energy for the busy and exciting weeks ahead.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Warmest regards,
