Saint Mary of the Cross
Mary MacKillop
Feast Day 8th August
Born 15/1/1842 in Fitzroy, Melbourne
Died 8/8/1909 in Sydney
Canonised 14 October 2010 in Vatican City by Pope Benedict XVI
Mary MacKillop lived out the words of Jesus by caring for the poor, the sick, the lonely, and those in need. She believed in the power of education and started many schools for children who had no access to learning. Mary trusted God deeply and faced many challenges with courage and faith. Mary teaches us to act with compassion and kindness, to help where we can, and to live with hearts open to others.
Her motto, “Never see a need without doing something about it,” calls us to action in our daily lives
