Murrumbeena PS really turn on the House Spirit at this years Athletics Carnival
On Wednesday 23 July, the Senior School participated in the annual House Athletics Carnival. The Carnival was held at the Duncan MacKinnon Reserve athletics track. The students participated in many events, including long jump, shotput, and hurdles. There were running events, throwing events and jumping events. Everyone had a great time doing the activities and it was a great day.
Athletics day was a really fun day and it was great watching everyone enjoying themselves and all the teachers were very helpful all day. Marram house was the winning house overall but every house was clearly trying their best to have fun and get ribbons and points for their house. Every student was cheering on their friends and other house members and it was fun to watch everyone try their best. It was a very successful day and the points were very close in the end. The older grades set a good example for the years to come and the Year 3's did amazing for their first Athletics Carnival.
The 1500 metre race was one of the highlights of the day. It was only open to those who competed in the District Cross Country, so everyone knew it was going to be a close race. By the final lap, James R (Yanggai House) and Mathias B (Dulai Wurrung House) were neck and neck, but in the final 15 metres James pulled away to take the overall win. Overall, the day was so much fun - you could really see that everyone was smiling and enjoying themselves. The House spirit was phenomenal and everyone was cheering for their House or their friends. Even the kids who didn’t get a ribbon were trying their best and having a great day. The Year 3's did a great job at their first Athletics Carnival and the older grades did a great job setting a positive example for them. Of course, this wouldn’t be possible without the amazing work of the year 3-6 teachers, who helped the students enjoy themselves while keeping them safe.

What an amazing Athletics Carnival we had this year. Each year it seems to get better and better but our House Captains, House members and our Senior School Teachers have taken it to a new level.
The level of competition was very high but throughout the day there was an air of calmness, respect and support for each member's House and also all athletes performing.
As stated by Charlotte and Murphy the 1500 metre race was a real highlight of the day with the modifications made by Mr Cook and Miss Perera taking this event to the next level. Aided by the fact that all students who were not competing got to support the athletes (while having their lunch) from the stand got to showcase what an exciting finish ensued between James and Mathias where the atmosphere was electric.
Our Grade 6’s continually set the tune for the School by leading by example and really showed care and empathy for all students. This really shone through with how confident and competent our Grade 3’s were with how they attacked their first Athletics Carnival. We are all very proud of their efforts and the positive attitudes they showed.
As the Event Organiser I cannot believe how amazing all our staff are who were absolutely sensational on the day. The day could not have run any smoother and I can say confidently before the event this was always going to be the case due to the teachers involved. Our teachers' calmness, competence and support for the students really highlighted what a great team they are and I can’t thank them enough.
Congratulations Marram House on taking out this year's Athletics Carnival Trophy and well done BEENA.
