eSmart Day
Yesterday our students from F-6 participated in an eSmart incursion that was facilitated by the Alannah and Madeline Foundation. The F-2 students focused on keeping themselves safe online and the 3-6 students learnt about their digital footprint. If your child has not already discussed what they learnt, I encourage you to ask them. More information about what was covered can be found on the eSmart website. We also hosted two parent sessions which were well attended. I am aware that not all parents were able to attend these sessions due to other commitments, we are in discussions with the organisers to arrange an after-hours online session. We are also working to design ongoing future learning opportunities for our students and our community. The home school partnership is vital when it comes to managing the online environment.
I would like to thank Mrs Katherine Richardson for her organisation of the day and look forward to the continuing work we will be doing in this space.
Year 1 Phonics Testing
As some families may be aware the Victorian Government have made changes to assessment practices in Literacy. Where students were usually assessed for their ‘Phonic knowledge’ at the commencement of their Foundation year, they are now expected to be tested in Year 1 Term 3. Today our Year 1/2 team commenced this assessment with students in their classes. The test is designed to be undertaken 1:1 with their teacher and only takes a few minutes per student. Teachers will share their findings with parents in the near future. This assessment helps us to track student progress with phonics and identify if there are any specific difficulties. Assessments should be completed by tomorrow afternoon.
Parents / Caregivers / Guardians Opinion Survey
Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.
Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 18 August to Friday 19 September 2025. All families are invited to participate in the survey. You will receive the link via Compass on Monday.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.
The survey results help to support the schools strategic planning and our annual implementation plan.
