Kinder/Year 1

Did you know that your K/1 children are composers and musicians? They are well on their way with writing music and playing it on the glockenspiel. So far, they have been drawing a musical stave, adding a treble clef, a 4/4 time signature and writing crotchets (coloured in one count notes) and minims (not coloured in 2 count notes), both with a stem on the side. We have been writing these as the note middle C - which sits on its own little swing below the stave. Then, we have been playing these compositions on the glockenspiel! How amazing are your children?  If you have a minute at home, please ask them to write for you what they know.

MUES1.1 • performs music using body percussion, percussion instruments and self-made sound sources

MUS1.3 • explores simple notational systems such as graphic notation and uses them to record their work

Also, have you timed your child lately while they write the alphabet?  All students can still develop speed in this skill, starting with lowercase and then uppercase, with a focus on formation. What improvements have you seen?
