Year Four - Spotlight on Learning

Jericho Community

Dear Families,

What an exciting start to the week, with our 3-6 Athletics Day!

It was perfect weather for the walk to Casey Fields and all of us enjoyed a great day of friendly competition spurred on by our energetic parents! Thank you to all those who were able to attend. The walk back to school allowed us to get to know each other a bit more, and the time went so quickly we were back at school before we knew it. Thank you to all those who made it such a special day.

On Thursday many of us choose to wear bright, colourful clothing as we raised money to help take Sister Julie's body back to Nigeria for burial. We cannot think of a better way to honour her and all she has been to us. The bright colours worn and the bright smiles on our students' faces continually reminded us of how special Sr Julie was to us, with that beautiful smile of hers! May she continue to smile down upon us as we will always smile when thinking about her.

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus

Next week we have the Ash Wednesday Mass with the Year 6's. Hopefully many of you will be able to join us for this solemn occasion. In our Religious Education lessons we will begin to look at stories from Caritas in relation to the dignity of the human person. This will include how to find, not just your gifts and talents, but your unique value.

English Focus

We will continue to read “Kensuke’s Kingdom” and complete grammar, vocabulary and comprehension tasks related to the text. Students will continue working on their persuasive writing, looking at the elements that make up a persuasive text and how they can influence their audience through their writing.

Mathematics Focus

Students will continue exploring addition and subtraction using regrouping and non-regrouping strategies. They are enthusiastically completing fluency tasks to develop their number skills.

Integrated studies: Students will be exploring our First Nation People's, Dreaming Stories which shows their connection to Country, told orally from generation to generation right up to today.

Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR: Students will be looking at identifying the cultural strengths we all have.

Auslan Focus

Students will be learning about classroom instructions and entity signs.
