Year Three - Spotlight on Learning

Ephesus Community

Dear Families,

Our students had an incredible time at Athletics Day on Monday! We are so proud of their resilience and enthusiasm. They tackled what felt like a long walk to the event, gave their all in every activity, and then powered through the walk back to school. Throughout the day, they demonstrated great effort, teamwork, and respect for our school expectations. Well done to all our amazing students!

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus

Next week, students will explore key Gospel stories that highlight Jesus' love, compassion, and forgiveness. They will learn how Jesus showed acceptance to Zacchaeus, healed the paralyzed man, and demonstrated care for others. Through these stories, students will reflect on how they can show acceptance and compassion in their own lives. They will also deepen their understanding of Ash Wednesday and Lent as times of transformation and growth.

English Focus

Next week, students will be using Matilda by Roald Dahl as inspiration for their persuasive writing. They will explore the theme of corporal punishment, considering different viewpoints and arguments. Through this, they will develop their skills in forming opinions, using evidence, and structuring persuasive texts. This will encourage critical thinking and thoughtful discussions about fairness, discipline, and the power of words.

We are using the UNICF Australia Rights of the child as a reference point for students to understand their right to be safe and protected from harm.

If any family has any concerns or needs assistance please know that Orange Door is a free service and self referral is welcome.

Mathematics Focus

Next week we are continuing our focus on addition and subtraction skills through place value partitioning and problem-solving strategies. They are exploring the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction to find unknown values, both mentally and using a calculator. Additionally, they are applying these strategies, including empty number lines and partitioning, to solve real-world budgeting problems.

Auslan Focus

This week was all about revising what we have learn in Auslan so far. Next week we will begin Unit 2. Next week, students will explore how some verb signs in Auslan can incorporate pronouns and movement to show direction. They will focus on the sign for "LOOK" and practice modifying its direction to indicate who is looking and what they are looking at. This will help deepen their understanding of how movement plays a key role in Auslan communication.
