My Lord and My God
Very soon, we will be embarking on a new composting project at our school. At St Thomas the Apostle, we are listening to the leadership of Pope Francis, with regard to the call to be good stewards of our earthly home.
Composting food waste aligns with Catholic Social Teaching by promoting environmental stewardship, one of the key principles of caring for God’s creation. By reducing waste and enhancing soil health, composting supports sustainability, which is integral to the Church’s call to protect the planet for future generations. Additionally, it reflects the principle of solidarity, as it encourages individuals and communities to work together for the common good, addressing environmental degradation and poverty. Composting also aligns with the dignity of work, as it empowers people to take responsibility for their environment and promotes a just and healthy world.
Pope Francis stresses the importance of a "culture of care," which includes being mindful of how we use resources and recognising the interconnectedness of all life. He calls for a shift toward sustainable lifestyles that prioritize the common good, the poor, and the environment. Composting can be seen as a small yet meaningful way to embody these principles, as it reduces landfill waste, returns nutrients to the soil, and fosters a more sustainable, just approach to resource use.
To help us get the project up and running, we are asking families to donate 5L buckets - buckets with lids. We'd love the kind of buckets that are typically used to contain yoghurt or other similar products. They need to have a lid that seals well. See below for ideas of what we need...

The program is now in full swing, having completed the Parent/Child Workshop this week. Well done to all the families who came along to one of the workshops this week and many thanks to all the teachers in the Ephesus Community (Year 3) who came along to support it.
Moving into the next number of weeks, families will be working on their 'sharesheets' together and bringing them to the Mass on the weekends.
A reminder that the Reconciliation ceremonies will take place on 25th/26th March. There are four ceremonies in total with a 5pm and a 7pm offering on each day.
Please see the attached flyer for the first steps in the Parish Renewal process this coming weekend. All families who are parishioners are invited to participate.
