Year Six - Spotlight on Learning

Bethlehem Community

Dear Families,

We kicked off Week 5 with excitement and energy at our Athletics event! Students displayed great sportsmanship, perseverance, and teamwork throughout the day. It was wonderful to see everyone cheering each other on and giving their best effort.

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus

We will continue our journey through Lent, deepening our understanding of its significance.

English Focus

Reading: Students will continue reading Rivet Boy, refining their comprehension skills by asking questions to clarify their thinking and supporting their responses with evidence. They will also extend their vocabulary through wide reading and interaction. Additionally, they will analyse how figurative language enhances meaning and impacts the audience.

Writing: Students will explore juxtaposition to present contrasting situations or ideas in their writing. They will also practise structuring multiple-paragraph texts with clear and logical transitions. Research and summarisation skills will be developed as students gather information from multiple sources to support their writing.

Mathematics Focus

We will shift our focus to area, exploring how to calculate and apply area in different contexts.

Integrated Studies Focus

We will explore the environmental changes caused by colonial settlement and their long-term effects on Australia’s landscape and ecosystems.

Social & Emotional Learning Focus

Our focus will be on intense emotions—understanding their effects and learning strategies to regulate them.

Auslan Focus

Students will continue working on Unit 2A, focusing on classroom instructions and entity signs. Key vocabulary includes:

  • Yes, no
  • Lunchtime
  • Recess
  • Cross your legs
