Excellence in Music
Over the last three Monday evenings, the Years 10, 11 and 12 Music Soirées have been held in the Duffy Music Centre. It has been a pleasure to watch the boys excel in an area that gives them such joy.
These evenings are assessments and unlike most assessments, they are done in a public forum. When a student normally sits an exam, his teachers, family and peers don't get to see a little mistake that could be rubbed out and fixed, or how brilliantly he answered the question first go. However, in live performance that is exactly what happens; parents, teachers and friends all get to see all the nuts and bolts of your answer or in this case, your performance. It takes great bravery to play and put your passion on display for everyone to see and assess. All the boys should be commended on their efforts.
Many of our Music students also excel outside the classroom.
Denzel Tan, who is currently in Year 11, has recently been presented with his Diploma for AMusA (Associate of Music, Australia) by the Australian Music Examinations Board. What makes this internationally recognised achievement even more impressive is that he completed and achieved it last year when he was only 15.
Christopher Mok also of Year 11 has recently been announced as our newest McGlade Organ Scholar. In the rigorous audition process Christopher demonstrated outstanding performance and sight-reading skills. Christopher joins our current year 12 Organ Scholars, Isaac Tannous and Christpher Costa in this prestigious position.
We are so proud of Denzel, Christopher and all our music students for their dedication, passion, and talent.
