We are Marching Forward
Last Friday 7 March, we came together for a combined College assembly and the main theme was on International Women’s Day. We listened to an address from Dr Lavorato who challenged us to be proactive regarding challenging stereotypes and opportunity and for our faith-filled young men to continue to drive this positive change. A piece from the script is included below.
You might hear many different themes for International Women’s Day, but the College focus is on the UN Australia Theme for 2025 - March Forward; All Women and Girls.
Speaking on this theme, the National Minister for Women, the Hon Katy Gallagher, said, “… there is still much work ahead to close the gender pay gap, ensure women’s safety, and fairly value both paid and unpaid care work. The theme ‘March Forward’ reminds us that progress is not just about reflection but about taking decisive, bold steps to turn our commitments into action.”
This year, we need to take a holistic approach to gender equality and women’s rights. To fully achieve gender equality, we must focus on Women’s rights across the world, not just in Australia and developed nations, but more importantly in Majority World countries. To turn promises into progress, we cannot leave any woman behind because when women’s rights are equal the whole of society functions better and more peacefully.
This year challenges us to having a comprehensive approach to gender equality—one that takes care of all. There is no progression when we do not talk about all the issues faced by the women and girls around the world, and according to the Women, Peace, and Security Index, 167 nations can be summed up in terms of women's equality and well-being on core important indicators you will see in this video.
That one nation mentioned is Denmark. Today, as we reflect on International Women’s Day, let us remember that we are not just celebrating the achievements of the past—we are committing to the future. Change is not inevitable; it happens when we demand it, work for it, and refuse to accept anything less than full equality. There are many places around our world that deny the rights of women.
So, let us March Forward—not just today, but every day, in our words, in our actions, and in our determination to create a world where every woman and girl can live with dignity, freedom, and opportunity.

In addition to these items, we had Ms Santiago present our Year 7 Ambassadors Jacob Tran, James Burnicle, Owen Giles, Christian Ibrahim and also a Co-curricular address from Mr Boggs who spoke about the upcoming fixtures and finals, along with some important information regarding the Winter season to come. More details in his Especean article from last week and this week.
