Faith in Action
Last Wednesday I joined Mr Pasternatsky’s class 5 Green and Ms Thongthip’s class 5 Blue for their Ash Wednesday Liturgy. Here I got to witness our youngest men living out the Gospel by engaging in an authentic experience of their lived faith.
It was clear from their responses to the liturgy that their faith was a lived faith. It was not something that was foreign to them. They were ably led by their teachers, and it was clear from being in the classroom that their faith was discussed openly daily. Lent is a time for all of us to reflect on the experiences we have had where we have wronged others and look for redemption. It is a time for fasting as we walk with God.
Each student was given a piece of paper that they had to glue into their diary as a reminder of something that they needed to go without during Lent. I was sitting next to Atticus, who was surprised to receive his slip of paper that said he had to go without lollies and chocolate, as he had already made that pledge a few days earlier in class and it was already on display.
My interactions with these classes made me remember that we can always find God in all things. At SPC, God is alive in our words and our actions, and the lived experience of our youngest students ensures that our touchstone of Gospel Spirituality will continue to be spread.
