Year 9 Photography and Digital Media Excursion
On Wednesday 5 March, the Year 9 Photography and Digital media classes enjoyed an exciting and educational excursion to Dee Why Beach. The trip provided an excellent opportunity for students to apply the skills they have been learning in their Photography classes, all the while exploring the stunning coastal environment.
As part of the excursion, students participated in a scavenger hunt, which challenged them to capture images based on specific photography concepts, including the exposure triangle and compositional arrangements. These hands-on activities allowed students to put theory into practice, experimenting with settings and framing techniques while surrounded by the natural beauty of the beach.
A highlight of the day was the dramatic weather conditions, as Cyclone Alfred generated large waves, providing perfect subjects for action shots and dynamic photography.
The excursion was made possible thanks to the dedicated staff accompanying the students: Mrs Tierney, Ms Sainsbury, and Mrs Kemp, as well as the support from the Curriculum office. Their guidance and enthusiasm ensured that the afternoon was both educational and enjoyable for all involved providing a memorable learning experience for our photography cohort!
Year 12 Visual Arts Excursion
On Friday 14 March, our Year 12 Visual Arts students visited the Art Gallery of New South Wales immersing themselves in the world of contemporary art. The highlight of the visit was exploring the thought-provoking exhibition by Chinese artist Cao Fei, alongside the annual ARTEXPRESS showcase, which celebrates the work of talented graduating students from the New South Wales Higher School Certificate.
Cao Fei is a highly innovative artist whose work highlights the intersection of technology, society, and the human experience, working in mediums, including video, virtual reality, and multimedia installations. Her works often reflect on China's rapid modernization and the tension between tradition and the digital future. Students enjoyed both the immersive and futuristic aspects of her work which will now form part of one of their case studies in preparation for the HSC.
ARTEXPRESS showcases the extraordinary work of Year 12 Visual Arts students, working in a variety of Expressive Forms, from painting and sculpture to photography and digital media. Each Body of Work reflects the individual journeys of the students as they explore their creative identities through both material and conceptual practice a great inspiring resource for our own students who are currently starting their journey in the creation of their own Body of Work.
