STEM News

The Inspiring STEM+ program is designed for Year 9 and 10 students and runs over an 18-month to 2-year period. It aims to introduce girls to STEM pathways within the construction industry while encouraging them to select STEM-related subjects during these formative years. The program focuses on raising awareness of the various career opportunities within the construction and STEM related sectors, with a key focus on inspiring greater female participation. The Inspiring STEM+ Program is run across multiple high schools Australia-wide by Laing O’Rourke.

Program Overview:

The Inspiring STEM+ program consists of a series of modules delivered throughout the school term, outside of regular school hours (or as otherwise agreed). • Module 3: Sustainability – Sustainable project initiatives, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and environmental management
  • Module 4: Digital Way of Working – Digital engineering processes and software
  • Module 5: Safety in Construction – Primary standards, hazard management, and controls
  • Module 6: The Future of Construction – Innovation within the construction industry (in partnership with the Technology & Innovation Group)
  • Module 7: Practical Completion – Quality management, safety assurance, and handover processes
  • Module 8: Graduation – A parent-attended event to recap the program, award certificates, and present final content
