Assistant Principal's Message
Mitchell Coombs - Assistant Principal 7-12
Dear students, parents and guardians,
What a busy Term 1 it has been, I can’t believe we’re nearly at the end of it already. For our Prep students, the growth in such a short time is amazing to see – many are now familiar with sounds and numbers they never knew before, with some reading quite fluently. Our Year 7s are well and truly settled into the new schedules and routines that secondary education entail, while our Year 12s are very much at the other end of their journey, already one third of the way through their year and getting through their assessments and SACs in preparation for whatever 2026 may hold!
As people who work in education, it is a real privilege to bear witness to this development of young people and one we should take the time to appreciate before it passes us by.
It has been great when walking around the school to see so much engaging learning taking place at all levels and I have no doubt that our students will experience excellent educational growth throughout the year, under the tutelage of the exceptional teaching and support staff within the school.
NAPLAN has also recently completed, so to our Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students, well done! I have no doubt you’ll receive results that you deserve! For our parents and carers, it is a great opportunity to unpack the results (when they come in) and use them to set goals with your student on where-to next.
Term 1 has been chock-full of great engaging events for our students and the wider community. Events such as the Ride to School Day, Year 11-12 formal, Year 7 camp, primary swimming program, Junior Park Rangers, sports opportunities, Year 3/4 disco, Year 9 Mt Major hikes, student leadership conferences, meet the KESO lunch, and community outreach recognising the service of our departed service men and women interred at the Kyabram Lawn Cemetery have been a credit to all involved, staff, students and community members alike.
These amazing opportunities continue into Term 2 with events such as the Year 7 Information Evening (01.05.25 – 6:00pm), Prep Information Evening (12.05.25 – 5:30pm TBC), Inclusion and Diversity day 15.05.25, and a new event for the College, a parent Information event – ‘Managing BIG Feelings’ (21.05.25, 2:00-3:30pm).
Achievements at the school have been coming fast too with Year 9 student Jacob Cartwright being recognised as the recipient of the Victorian School Sports Awards and receiving the 'Sporting Blue Award' for Bowls. This is a huge recognition for both hard work and dedication for Jacob. These awards recognise the outstanding sporting achievements of Victorian Government school students and represent sporting excellence in Victorian government schools, with many past awardees going on to professional sports and Australian representatives.
Well done Jacob!
Our College was also recognised for our amazing work in the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) area, being recognised with the ‘Blue Award’ for the second year in a row – well done to everyone involved!
I would like to extend a huge thank you to the parents and carers who have supported the students, and the school as a whole, during Term 1 and thank you in advance for your support for the remainder of the year.
I would also like to thank our student leaders as they lead the student body through the year. I look forward to collaborating with them and other students as we work together to continue improving Kyabram P-12 College into the best possible educational institution that we can.
As a final note, as we head into Term 2, there will be a uniform blitz, with more notification to follow. If assistance in this matter is required, please contact the College office.
I hope you all have a great holiday and come back refreshed and ready to go on Tuesday 22 April.
Regards,
Mitch Coombs
