Sport At Mullauna

February 2025

Mullauna Sport

In mid-February this year, Year 10 student Henry competed in the annual Cannonball MTB Festival at Thredbo, NSW.  Henry finished in an impressive place of 45 out of 107 competitors in U17. It’s always fantastic to see students representing themselves (and Mullauna) at a range of different sports and events!

On Wednesday, 19 February, the Senior cricketers of Mullauna Secondary College, consisting of Angus, Amelia, Austin, Blake, Daniel, Ethan, James, Liam B, Liam H, Marlie, Matt, Michael, Yahya, Ollie, Floyd and Will competed against two teams from Ashwood College. Mullauna achieved a narrow 5-run win over their Year 12 team – an impressive feat, given that Mullauna’s team comprised of students from Years 8 and 9! This gave our team some well-deserved confidence in themselves.  Ashwood’s Year 11 team however, proved to be as good (if not better) than their Year 12 team. Despite a shaky start with the bat, Mullauna slowly regained their composure, with Matt in particular, playing a key role in steadying the ship whilst wickets fell around him. With the ball, Michael (Year 8) took several important wickets to keep the game alive, and Floyd also made the most of a run-out chance to break another Ashwood partnership. It all came down to the final over, where Mullauna somehow scraped through and beat Ashwood.  Our Mullauna team will now play off in the Regional tournament on Tuesday, 4 March, where a greater test awaits!

The Senior Girls Volleyballers toiled hard all day at Dandenong Stadium on Wednesday, 19 March and came away with a two sets to zero victory! Unfortunately, there were two close three-set match losses. Well done for representing Mullauna with such passion, enthusiasm, integrity and sportsmanship! Special thanks to Ms Chiappa for her coaching prowess on the day!

Mullauna’s finest Intermediate Tennis players descended upon Heathmont Tennis Club on Friday, 21 March, where sublime serves, brilliant backhands and fantastic forehands were all on full display. Although they fell agonisingly short in their last match, everyone should be proud of the way in which they represented the College; with respect for the opposition and a constant desire to give the absolute best of themselves. Thanks to Mr Cotton for getting everyone to and from the venue safely, and for his unrivalled Tennis acumen!
