Caring Casseroles @ Weeden Heights
Over the years, casseroles have been a huge gift in the life of many Weeden Heights’ families and touched and brightened the day for people in our community in a simple but powerful way.
We all have moments when knowing that someone has noticed and has heard us makes all the difference. This is the driving force behind our Caring Casserole program and this invitation to be involved.
WHAT IS IT?
It's a home-cooked meal program where pre-made meals are available for families in our school community that have a need, whether this be facing pressures such as sickness, injured children or family members, trauma, its an opportunity to celebrate with a family if a baby has been born and so much more.
It's a wonderful way to show our Weeden Heights’ families that they are valued and part of a community that stands with them through the ups and downs.
It is also an opportunity to get your children involved in their community to show them in a practical way that they are part of and have a very important place in this school, where they can make a positive difference. It is an incredible opportunity to get your kids in the kitchen and give them the gift of giving.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED?
Cook ~ You can prepare a meal suitable for a family at home, which can then be dropped off at the school to help encourage, support and nourish a family in need.
There are three ways to help cook:
- You can prepare a well needed once off meal
- You can make an ongoing committemnt to provide a meal on a regular basis
- When called upon, you can prepare and cook a meal suitable for a family
Offer resources ~ If you are running short of time yourself but would like to get involved in the Caring Casseroles Program, you can donate the ingredients to make a caring casserole to the school or donate seeds for us to grow the ingredients that will be used to make a caring casserole. Our Wellbeing Captains have agreed to help prepare meals during their lunch times using donated ingredients.
Use the program and request a meal ~ be our eyes and ears and let us know if you become aware of a family that would benefit from the program. You can send through a confidential email to marika.smith3@education.vic.gov.au or call our office on 9802 0663. Don't be shy to ask for a meal for yourself if you need it too! We value any opportunity to acknowledge and support our families when they need it most!
