Principal Update

     Thursday 13th March

Dear Families,

Each week we will send out our communication like a regular newsletter.  Fortnightly will be a normal newsletter and the alternate weeks will be highlighting different aspects of the school either in wellbeing, specialists or classrooms.  Today is a wellbeing update.

It was great to see families joining forces after school to try and solve the puzzles during our Family Maths afternoon.  Thanks to those that managed to stay and participate.  It was all going smoothly until the rain arrived!  Thanks to Sonya Mcleod for organising this for us.  We aim to do this biannually and will look to have it start during the school day next time so all students can participate and then invite the families to join in also.

Our Year 3 and Year 5 students have been completing their NAPLAN assessments this week.  NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents, teachers and principals and can be used to improve student achievement.

NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress. NAPLAN also provides schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether young Australians are achieving important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.

You may have noticed our real estate boards near the roundabout, at the Paradise Valley Hotel and at the school.  These are promoting our upcoming open days and our newly introduced messy play on a Thursday morning.  Today we had the local paper visit to take some photos and interview Kate Watkins.  It has been nice to welcome new families into our school.
