Term 1, Week 6
Waste Incursion: On February 24th our students attended a session on waste, facilitated by the City of Greater Bendigo. Students learnt about which bins different types of waste can be put into and places where we can safely dispose of e-waste.
Smoking Ceremony and opening of our student designed mosaic:
Students learnt some indigenous language and connected to country by covering themselves with the smoke.
Each class then visited the recently created mosaic which incorporates many of our students designs and can be found in the 3/4 eating area if any families would like to visit.
People Who Help Us:
On Monday afternoon we were very lucky to have two health professionals visit us to talk about the way they help us in the community.
Students were treated to a visit from the Ambulance and Paramedic Kate, where they met Stretch the Bear and got to have a look inside the ambulance. They also got to meet Anaesthetist Dr Andrew, dress up in a theatre hats and see blood pressure being monitored on a brave teacher volunteer. We thank Dr Andrew and Kate for their willingness to volunteer their time and come in to talk to us!

Week 7 and 8
Reading, Writing and Spelling:
Our focus texts for the next fortnight are:
Students will practise using the reading strategies predicting, making connections and also tuning into interesting vocabulary, whilst being read these books.
Our Writing lessons will continue to have a focus on writing recounts and narratives. Students will be learning how to up level their writing, by checking for accurate punctuation and including the use of WOW words.
Phonemes for term 1 will include:

Weeks 9 & 10: Revise based on student need
Mathematics: Students will continue explore the concept of place value. Our students will be using materials to understand the idea of numbers having hundreds, tens and ones.
Topic: During topic session we will begin Fire Safety lessons. This will involve students coming home to discuss some topics such as Smoke Alarms and to create a plan if there was to be a fire at home, looking for things such as: where to meet, who will call 000 etc.
Respectful Relationships: As part of our Respectful relationships lessons students will be participating in Circle time, where they will be exploring concepts relating to being an up-stander. They will also identify and practice some relaxation techniques to support coping skills in stressful situations.
