Cyber Topic of the Week: I Think my Child is Being Bullied Online

Your child may not tell you if they are experiencing bullying behaviour online because of a fear it might make things worse for them, or that they may lose access to their devices and the internet. They may also feel ashamed, especially if they have also been involved in bullying others online.

School Breakfast Clubs Program

We had our first Breakfast Club on Monday morning with a healthy number in attendance. As Francis mentioned in the last newsletter, we are excited to be able to offer this to the school community and plan to gradually build up the service.

Check out Mrs Todeschini's articles in the new section of our newsletter entitled, Mental Health and Wellbeing.

Smoking Ceremony & Welcome to Country

I would like to thank everyone involved in our whole school Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country which took place last Friday. The respect shown by our students and the turn-out of community members made all of our staff  feel very proud. Thank you to the Koori Curriculum Cluster Project for facilitating and supporting the ceremony.

National Assessment Program — Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

NAPLAN will be conducted next week from March 12th-14th. The assessment program tests Years 3 and 5 students in reading, persuasive or narrative writing, grammar and punctuation, numeracy and spelling. This year NAPLAN will continue to be largely completed in an online format for students.

Happy International Women’s Day

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women.

International Women's Day provides an important opportunity for teachers, parents and caregivers to educate and inspire students about gender equality. From celebrating women's achievements to challenging gender stereotypes and bias, educating future generations about gender equality is one of the most significant differences anyone can make.

To all of the wonderful women in our school community…thank you for your awesome contributions and for helping to make a difference in our school community, and in the lives of those around you.

The SGPS male staff will celebrate the amazing women on our staff by hosting a morning tea next week.

Maths Challenges 2025

We are excited to announce some exciting changes to our Maths Challenges for 2025! Each fortnight, a different Maths Challenge will be put into the newsletter for students and parents to discuss at home together. Students will then have until Friday of the following week to submit their answers.

In order to submit their answers, students will need to head to the ‘Maths Challenge’ board located at the office, find the slip of paper with their teacher’s face, write their name and answer on the paper and then place it into the clear container. The class with the MOST PARTICIPATION will win our Maths Challenge trophy for the fortnight and be announced in the following newsletter, along with our next challenge!
