Music Matters

Wow, that term flew by! We’ve got so much to celebrate in Music in just one term!

We have achieved a great recruitment of Year 7s into the program, with over one in three students taking on lessons on a wide range of instruments. This has resulted in very balanced ensembles in Soundworks and Stringworks. As mentioned in last newsletter, al the year 7s got to workshop together and perform for their peers at two Turbo Days. One for Soundworks and one for Stringworks.

All the ensembles have made excellent starts to the year, building their repertoire and ensemble skills in their early morning or after school rehearsals.

Guitar Ensemble has made a solid start and are looking forward to attending their first Music Camp in May.

The Rock Program has five great bands and Pizza Ace performed at a lunchtime concert on the Music Centre outdoor stage. (See photos)

Take Note Jazz Workshop with Selene Messinis

In week one on Thursday 24th April there will be a Take Note Jazz Workshop for all Junior Jazz and Senior Jazz students as well as VCE Music students. If you’re in these groups and haven’t consented already, do so via the event as soon as possible as numbers are limited to twenty students. It’s funded as part of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and is free so take advantage of this amazing opportunity to learn from an incredible upcoming Melbourne Jazz musician, Selene Messinis.

Music Camp Week 6 26-28 May

The Music Camp event is now open on Compass for all Soundworks, Concert Band, Stringworks and Guitar Ensemble students. Make the most of this incredible opportunity to hang with the best kids (and teachers) in the school, enjoy some awesome activities, be prepared for Winter Concert and enjoy the best food of any camp I’ve ever been on 😊

Queensland Senior Ensemble Music Tour

Wind Symphony, String Orchestra and Senior Big Band are all heading to Queensland in June. Final instalments are now able to be paid on Compass and are due by April 24. If you need to split payments, please talk to the main office to arrange this.

The itinerary has been finalised and is attached to the event but will include a rehearsal at Queensland Youth Orchestras facilities, workshops with Macgregor High School ensembles, a performance at Macgregor State School (Primary School) workshop and performance at the South East Queensland Regional Music Camp on the Gold Coast, visit to Movieworld a performance and fun day at Dreamworld and sightseeing around Brisbane and the Gold Coast. It promises to be an amazing trip full of lifetime memories.
