AUSLAN
The children in Years Foundation to 4 are continuing their learning of AUSLAN this term.
Classroom teachers and students are co-learning Auslan, with assistance from Nicole Johnson, and doing an amazing job. The students are like little sponges, absorbing so much of this new language and enjoying the thought that they might be able to use this language in the future to help communicate with another individual who might be deaf or hard of hearing and help them feel that they belong.
Today, we are once again sharing the link to the Auslan Vocabulary Matrices that you are welcome to access from home. The links on the matrix provide access to signage movies for each word/phrase.
This term the Foundation classes are working through Units 5-6 while the Years 1 to 4 are working through Units 13 and 14. In the Units 1-8 link there is a section with the Alphabet and Numbers. If you are looking for something fun to do with your child/ren, this can be a nice activity, to learn how to spell the names of your family and friends. The Years 1-4 students are learning to sign when their birthdays are and their friends’ birthdays are and the alphabet and counting in Auslan are relevant to this also.
