 In The 'Classroom'

What will we be learning about in Physical Education this term?

Foundation:

This term in Physical Education, the Foundation students will participate in games that require them to be aware of personal safety and game boundaries as well as demonstrate appropriate use of equipment. With a focus on Athletics and Target Games, the Foundation students will practise fundamental movement skills and movement sequences using different body parts.

Year 1 + 2:

This term in Physical Education, the Year One and Two students will perform fundamental movement skills in different movement situations, related to Athletics. These will include running, throwing and jumping. When participating in Target Games including Ten Pin Bowling, Bocce and Finska, the students will reflect on their performance and identify and demonstrate ways they can perform a skill more successfully.

Year 3 + 4:

This term in Physical Education, the Year Three and Four students will have a focus on Athletics and in particular their ability to demonstrate acceleration and deceleration as well as perform fundamental movement skills in correct sequence to complete a movement task e.g long jump and triple jump. The Year Four students will apply their skills at the annual House Athletics Carnival in August. They students will also participate in a range of Target games including Finska, Golf and Ten-Pin Bowling. While participating in these games, students will adopt inclusive practices. An example of this may be students modifying physical activities to ensure that everyone is included e.g. changing equipment, rules or playing space.

Year 5 + 6:

This term in Physical Education, the Year Five and Six students will focus on Athletics and Target Games. Students will perform activities that involve a transition from one skill to another, such as running to jumping and jumping to balancing. Students will apply their skills at the annual House Athletics Carnival in August. While participating in modified Target games such as Bocce, Finska and golf, the students will demonstrate ethical behaviour and fair play that aligns with the rules.

Olympics Day

Excitement is building for the BRPS Olympics Day this Friday the 2nd of August. It has been great to hear the students sharing their highlights of the games so far in PE lessons this week. I can't wait to see them emulate their heroes in our own events and ceremonies.

Please refer to the separate Compass News Feed that was sent out last week for further details about the event, including what country your child's class is representing and advice on what to wear on the day.

Go Aussies!

Senior House Athletics Carnival

With the carnival just a couple of weeks away I am on the hunt for a number of volunteers from the grade 4 - 6 parent group to assist on the day. If you are able to help out with setup, assist with student movement through the day or assist teacher at field events please add your name to the following document:

2024 House Athletics - Parent Volunteers.

Thankyou so much for your assistance, these events only run with the help of dedicated volunteers.

Cross Country

Congratulations again to Vivienne Baker from Year 5 who competed at School Sports Victoria Cross Country event, finishing 13th on a slippery and challenging track. She also competed at the Athletics Victoria State Cross Country event, finishing 5th in her age group. Through these great results Vivi has been selected to represent Team Vic at the upcoming Australian Cross Country Championships in Tasmania on August 31st. We wish Vivi all the best in her run at the highest level, we are all behind you and your amazing efforts!

Run Club

Susanne and Debbie are continuing the highly successful Run Club throughout this term so please encourage your child/children to come along on a Wednesday at 8am and enjoy the fitness and fun. With the athletics carnival coming up in a couple of weeks there is a greater emphasis on shorter distance running, including relays and hurdles, along with endurance for events like the 800m and 1500m.

A reminder that whilst the running club is predominantly aimed at the students in Years 4 - 6, younger students are welcome to attend. We are asking however that if your child in Foundation - Year 3 is going to attend that a parent also stays to supervise them in case the activity becomes a bit too much for them.
