What is happening in Performing Arts?
Foundation
In July, students explored the musical elements of beat patterns and dancing to the beat. They moved and danced to music with a steady beat and music with no beat.
The students participated in exercises such as The Pony Gallop, The Shearers’ Skip and the game Rhythm Detective. National Anthems from the Olympics were also played and discussed. This Term students will be involved in the musical elements of Beat, Pitch, Dynamics and Tempo.
Year 1
This Term students will be involved in the musical elements of Beat, Pitch, Dynamics and Tempo. They will be involved with beat patterns, dancing to the beat, character voices, creative movement, responding and playing to loud and soft sounds, fast and slow music and responding and exploring graphic symbols. For example, they will move or sing loudly or softly to the song Marching Land. National Anthems from the Olympics will also be played and discussed.
Year 2
In July, students recognised chorus and verse and were able to contrast different sections of songs. They responded by singing, moving and playing to songs and exercises such as Wiggle and Sway and A Little Bonnie Dance. They created their own movement and different sequences within a song and had a chance to perform in front of the class. National Anthems from the Olympics were also played and discussed. This term, students will be involved in the musical elements of Chorus and Verse, Dynamics and Tempo.
Year 3
This term, students will be involved in the musical elements of Chorus and Verse, Dynamics and Tempo. Students will explore the symbols for loud and soft music, respond to slow and fast music and recognise and play different types of sounds. They will sing and clap to the song Who is it?, move to the song Walk, Jog, Run, and move fast or slow to the song On My Pony. National Anthems from the Olympics will also be played and discussed.
Year 4
This term, students will be involved in the music element of Exploring Sound. They will explore Mouth Music, Sound Words, Short and Long Sounds and Vocal Rhythms. They will learn the song The Sound of Your Voice, add vocal effects to the verse Rumble in The Jungle, add instruments to the song Noises in My Head, and play the Short and Long Sounds game Sounds in the Round. National Anthems from the Olympics will also be played and discussed.
Year 5
This term, students will explore Latin Music and Blues Music. They will experience Latin Rhythms through listening, singing and playing songs such as Mambo Gumbo, The Rhymers’ Waltz and performing a Mardi Gras. They will also experience Blues Music through moving and playing to The Bo Diddley Beat and improvising in the song Late For School Blues. National Anthems from the Olympics will also be played and discussed.
Year 6
This term, students will explore the musical element of Musical Pictures. Students will create images to show moods, feelings and emotions suggested by different musical pieces and visual imagery. Students will create a piece of music to the images Rush Hour and a Storyboard, and create movement to the soundtrack of Silent Movie. They will also create sound effects for a short video Funny Foley. National Anthems from the Olympics will also be played and discussed.
