The Sister Switch
Authors: Sarah Mlynowski & Debbie Rigaud
Magic changes everything!
Because you're blue
This bracelet is now for you,
Speak one wish to make it true ...
5 Star Review
The book involves 3 main characters who are sisters; Sophie, Addie and Camille and live in Ohio, USA.
When different girls around the country receive wish granting bracelets in the mail and Addie is one of them! She puts it on and makes a wish. She wishes not to be the middle child anymore and didn’t really think it would happen, but to her surprise it comes true! And Sophie the oldest sister swaps with Camille the youngest sister! What they don’t know is that a sneaky stranger is determined to get her hands on the magic bracelet!
This book is really good and I would definitely read it again! I enjoyed how it didn’t take long to get to the main idea and how much humour is in the details.
Addie and her sisters having an amazing bond at the end is my favourite part and I made a text to self connection here as normally my older sister and I don’t get along, much like Sophie, Addie and Camille at the start. The adventure actually changes their lives. The book also has some fun illustrations! I would recommend the reading age is 8-12 years.
If you are a fan of Whatever After and The Babysitters Club books you will love The Sister Switch. I would recommend reading book number 1, Best Wishes.
Other forthcoming titles in this series:
Book #3 – Time after Time
Book #4 – Like a Boss
Great review Zoe, thank you!

What is the Great Book Swap?
The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous Languages and culture, while raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. By hosting a Great Book Swap Karoo students and families will be actively helping gift 18,000 new, carefully chosen books to children in remote Communities across the country.
On the day of the event all books will be displayed on tables, students will visit the Library with their class to browse the books and leave a gold coin donation in exchange for a book.

We are thrilled to announce that Alpha Shows are returning to Karoo next month as part of our Book Week celebrations presenting Snow Queen to the whole school!
Alpha’s productions are a guaranteed way to energize students and bring awareness to the following topics:
This year’s production features a very talented cast, breathtaking sets, stunning backdrops, exquisite costumes, and powerful musical theatre songs (along with a few pop songs as well!).
Combatting post-pandemic isolation and screen addiction with a captivating theatrical experience
Their Snow Queen show has been re-imagined to emphasize the transformative power of community, learning, and the dangers of isolation and fear. This is incredibly impactful for students who continue to struggle with attendance, overwhelm, anxiety, or other social and emotional challenges, whether due to the lockdowns or other factors.
Alpha Shows provides a wonderful and impactful theatrical experience, equivalent to a trip to see a big Broadway show at a major theatre in the city. There is nothing else like this in Australia!
It’s also a hilarious, fun, and comedic adventure as they explore the concept of a ‘Snow Queen’ (who is a real physical character in this version) and the emotional impact on everyone. Students will learn how to let go of being ‘frozen’ and come back into alignment with who we really are.
Elsa: A Powerful Role Model for Overcoming Uncertainty and Fear
Alpha’s character of Elsa provides a compelling role model for making new choices after experiencing uncertainty, fear, and turmoil. Within the story, Elsa faces a panic attack, and we witness the consequences of her various choices. With help from our students and the Clever Princess, who employs sophisticated and real-life psychological change techniques, Elsa learns to align with her true potential. Our students are sure to find inspiration in her transformative character journey.
Anna: Navigating the Path from Naivety to Empowerment
Anna’s journey illustrates the pitfalls of naive beliefs and fantasy, demonstrating how to make strong, self-loving, and certain decisions. She learns to maintain a joy for life without allowing others to manipulate or control her, offering students a powerful example of resilience and self-empowerment.
Kristian: A Strong Role Model for Expressing Emotions and Community Support
Kristian, a character in the Snow Queen production, showcases the importance of emotional strength and community support. As an organic farmer dedicated to helping his community, Kristian is deeply concerned about the eternal winter Elsa has triggered. His journey provides a powerful example for students, complementing the transformative paths of Elsa and Anna. Kristian demonstrates that true strength comes from vulnerability and emotional expression.
Despite his initial fear of showing his feelings, Kristian learns to open up and communicate honestly. His dedication to his community and his commitment to sustainable farming highlight the importance of taking responsibility and working together to overcome challenges.
Kristian’s journey teaches students that it’s okay to express emotions and that doing so is a vital part of personal growth and community support. His character shows that true strength involves compassion, responsibility, and a willingness to embrace change for the betterment of all.
Students will see in Kristian a role model who embodies:
