A Midsummer Night's Dream

Congratulations to everyone who was involved in the College production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was fabulous to see how the talent that we were impressed with at the auditions for the show back in February had developed.

This high-quality production involved students from year 7 – 12 who worked fabulously together as a team and brought Shakespeare to life with some terrific comedic moments. The production was the culmination of many months of hard work by the students and the production director Ms Emma Woods.

It brought together a fabulous team of students not only on stage but also running the tech (sound and lighting), backstage, hair/make-up and assisting with publicity. A big thank you to Penny Fokas for coming in and leading the hair team.

Thank you and congratulations to all who were involved in and supported the production.

A Note from the Director

This is the third time I have directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream with high school students. I return to it because the script provides so many speaking roles and lots of action and comedy, which gives actors a chance to play and bring their own sense of fun.

It’s also a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with Shakespeare in the way he intended his plays to be enjoyed: as actors and audience.

The students and I started this journey together all the way back in April. At the auditions it became clear how much talent there was at Doncaster Secondary. This terrific group of students have shown commitment, perseverance and a desire to learn, play and improve.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with such a wonderful young people onstage and off. I hope they’ve enjoyed the ride as much as I have!
