Music Matters
Victorian Schools Festival
On Thursday 1st August, both Junior and Senior Jazz bands travelled to the Hawthorn Arts Centre to perform as part of the Victorian Schools Music Festival. Both bands performed very well in their sections and received lots of helpful comments from the adjudicators. The head adjudicator, Bethany Robinson from Indiana USA was a finalist in the 2022 Grammy Awards for Music Educators.
Both bands can be very proud of their performances as they received a Silver Award for their efforts.
Junior & Senior Jazz students
Congratulations to all the students involved and their conductors Basil Byrne (Junior Jazz) and Andy O’Connell (Senior Jazz). This is the first time we have had Jazz bands able to be entered at the VSMF for many years so it was a great first effort for everyone.
On Friday 23rd August, it was String Orchestra’s turn to head to the Hawthorn Arts Centre. This year they moved up to the Intermediate Orchestra section from the Junior Orchestra section. The students certainly demonstrated how well they have progressed in twelve months, performing their challenging program outstandingly well.
So well in fact the adjudicators awarded them a Gold Award.
Congratulations to all students involved and their conductor Hannah Walters for her incredible leadership. Along with Joshus Verco our lower strings teacher, Hannah has taken our string program from strength to strength, of which the school community can be very proud.
