Significant Events
This Friday, 30th August, is Wear It Purple Day.
Originally founded by students in response to global stories of teenagers taking their own lives due to bullying and harassment, Wear it Purple Day has become an international movement of love and support. This year’s theme is "Your Passion, Your Pride", with artwork by Nicky Tsekouras, winner of Wear It Purple’s Youth Action Council (YAC) Design Competition to create a campaign message and artwork in celebration of LGBTQIA+ people openly and visibly achieving their dreams in sport, art, science and more!
On Friday we encourage students and staff to wear a touch of purple. By wearing purple, we are standing for a school environment where everyone feels safe, respected and valued. We are promoting inclusivity. Wearing purple shows allyship to the LGBTQIA+ community and recognizing the importance of inclusion and respect for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
This simple act is a statement of solidarity.
Students are encouraged to attend the Breakfast Club in the Library on Friday morning before school to have their photo taken and be put into a collage of support for inclusivity - not just of LGBTQIA+ members of our community but of all diversity.
There will be purple ribbons available in the Library at Breakfast Club and there are prizes for the best purple outfits (teachers) and accessories (students).
Cisco & Inclusive Workplaces
During the Year 9 Cluster Day on Wednesday 21st August, our students had the opportunity to engage with Cisco in a thought-provoking session focused on personal values. Why did Cisco emphasize this? Because when you seek employment, companies are not only assessing your skills and personality—they’re also keen to understand your values. Similarly, it's essential for you to find employers whose values align with your own.
Cisco is proudly an inclusive employer. Cisco aligned discussions about personal values with the upcoming Wear It Purple Day and their support for eradicating bullying based on sexuality and gender diversity.
At Doncaster Secondary College, we instill in our students the values that are crucial in the real world, especially if they aspire to work for organizations that truly care about their people. These lessons are not just about preparing for a job; they’re about building a fulfilling career with employers who share your commitment to inclusivity and integrity.
