This Week At OOPS

Old Orchard Primary School will be celebrating Book Week from August 19th to 23rd 2024.  Our whole school Book Week parade will be held on Tuesday the 20th with a special assembly starting at 9:15 in the gym.

Rumour has it, there will be a surprise performance from Hollywood’s BIGGEST Stars!

We look forward to seeing everyone dressing up as their favourite book character for the day and the school community celebrating a love of reading throughout the week!

Olympic (and Paralympic) fever has hit the Preps! They have enjoyed learning about the Games this week and even got the chance to write some letters to Aus Paralympic runner Rhiannon Clarke. We'll be sending these all the way to Paris for Rhiannon to read before her races. Fingers crossed their letters help her bring home some medals!

This week Hailey from Year 2 continued the Olympic spirit by bringing in a torch from the 2000 Sydney Olympics.  Hailey's grandparents were given the honour of running with the Olympic torch in acknowledgement of their charity fundraising.  We were all very excited to see this amazing souvenir up close!

Ginger joined the students in the sandpit this week for a fun measuring activity!

Dear parents and guardians,

As you may know the Premiers' Reading Challenge has already started and will end on the 6th of September. The Premiers' Reading Challenge is a reading challenge set by the government to encourage children to read more.

The prep - 2 students read 20 books from the challenge book list and 10 books of their choice totalling 30 books. 3-6 students read 10 books from the challenge book list and 5 free choice books totalling 15. Students can read the books themselves, or they can listen to them being read.

For more information about the challenge, you can go to the website: https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge

The link to the Premiers Reading Challenge to log books is: https://vprc.eduweb.vic.gov.au/home

If your child doesn’t know their login details they can just ask their teacher (s).
