Photo Day

Head of Primary, Mrs Tracey Rogers

It has been wonderful to be back at school and reconnecting with students and families over the past two weeks. A highlight for me has been getting back to Chapel services with our Years 2-6 students, and you may have caught some of my ‘dance’ moves on our social media when joining in the morning circle and positive primer for the day in Year 5. For our younger students, the cold weather has been a wonderful chance to use the fire pit.

Our Year 6s enjoyed an exciting start to Term 3 with their Encounter to Cahoots Adventure Camp. You can hear from the students themselves below.

In week one of Term 3 we went on a Year 6 camp to “Cahoots” in Bullsbrook. The first day we unpacked, found our dorms and then once that was done, we had this awesome colour war and different games involving water balloons and coloured powder. Afterwards, we got sprayed with freezing cold water to clean us!

After dinner we played “Glow Sports” where we had glow bands on our wrists and ankles. We were put into teams and rotated around soccer, basketball and volleyball team games.

The next day we got in our groups that we had for the rest of camp and that day we had activities such as trying edible bush plants, making huts, and got showed “Crazy Critters” where we met and held all these cool animals like a frilled-neck-lizard, geckos and even a python! We also had orienteering where we would have to find letters that lead to a code and the team who found it got a prize.

That night we had some people who presented space astronomy and told us all these cool facts, and then the next day we had more activities such as disc golf, a treasure hunt where we got tied together and team building games. We also did an activity called “Birds of Prey” where they showed us birds that hunt.

That was our last night at camp so that night we did a Year 6 Quiz Night. The next morning, we had bacon and eggs, which were really yummy, then it was time to pack and hop on the bus. We all had an awesome time at camp!

On the first morning we were all a bit nervous and exited as we got on the buses and left for camp. Once we got there, we got our dorms and got an hour and a half of free time. Our first activity was the colour run, which was so fun. We also had tug-of-war, including staff versus students, and a water balloon fight where we got to run around and even throw them at teachers!

Soon after, we changed and got the best dinner! In the morning everyone got woken up by their friends, but everyone was excited to do the first day of activities and find out about our groups. Most people were really lucky to have their friends in their groups.

Over the next few days our activities were Orienteering, Treasure Hunt, Team Games, Birds of Prey, Crazy Critters, Disc Golf and Bush Tucker. We were also allowed some free time to pat the horses, goats, sheep and dogs, as well as play sports games such as basketball, soccer, cricket and volley ball. Some of us also enjoyed playing Uno/Uno No Mercy/Uno Flip which was lots of fun!

That night after dinner we played mini soccer in the dark, volleyball and basketball, all whilst glowing with glow sticks on our wrists and ankles. On our final day we got some free time, but only once we’d packed and cleaned our dorms. We were all exhausted but had a great time together on camp.

Professional Learning

The Primary Staff engaged in two days of professional learning during the school holidays. For some staff, IB Educator Glenn Carmichael joined us from interstate to run the Making the PYP Happen workshop. This workshop is an important workshop for all teachers working in an IB programme. The remainder of Primary Staff engaged in the first steps of the Evaluation process. Students, parents and staff will continue to reflect as part of our Evaluation process over the next 12 months. Look out for communication over the coming months regarding how you can get involved.

Parent Coffee Morning

On Tuesday morning, parents were treated to a delicious morning tea hosted by our Year 11 and 12 Hospitality students. We took the opportunity to visit both the domestic and commercial kitchens in the Technology Building, after catching up over coffee and treats. Our thanks to Mrs Bissell for her support of students to host this morning tea.

With Photo Days, a Quiz Night for the adults, and upcoming ELC Swimming lessons there is always plenty happening. I look forward to catching up with more families as the term continues.

ASC Strings Day

Twelve students attended the ASC String Day at Georgiana Molloy Anglican School on Thursday 25 July. It was a very long day for our students filled with rehearsals, meeting new students and performing a small concert for the Busselton Community. All our students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and worked really hard to have multiple string ensemble pieces ready to perform in limited time. Looking forward to 2025!

Kindergarten Medical Incursion

The Kindergarten students were visited by Shelley Griffiths from the Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital (AWCH).

Shelley introduced the children to the Hospital Familiarisation Program (HFP) to prepare them for possible future visits to hospital, the doctor or the dentist. During the visit, the children discussed their experiences of hospital and learnt about the process of being admitted to hospital as a patient. They had an opportunity to play with hospital-themed toys and equipment, and to take care of life-sized dolls. The children enjoyed using bandages, stethoscopes, wheelchairs and crutches while pretending to be doctors, nurses and patients.
