Want Not, Waste Not.

Have you ever had a look around home and wondered how you ended up with so much clutter?
It’s a real thing in our household at the moment; Kris and I have started packing up our house, as we are moving to our new home in January. And we are looking at the things we’ve accumulated and realised that there are many things that we have that would be better in the hands of others – we don’t need them, they are still in good nick (or even still new/in mint condition) and good stewarding means we need to release them to those who can use them.
Rob Hannath (a school parent since 2017) has a passion for providing access for students who would not otherwise be able to afford to come (or stay) at DCC. He has offered his services to lead this fund-raising initiative, taking things we don’t want and then selling them both in-person and online.
Every $ raised will be placed in a dedicated fund within the DCC accounts to enable those students and their families to have continued access to Christian education at DCC.
Rob writes:
Most of us have things at home that we own but have not used for some time and are unlikely to use again. They are just taking up space in our garage or storeroom. But they would be valuable for someone else to use and bring them joy. Perhaps it is time to declutter with a compassionate purpose.
As parents we feel so very blessed to be able to send our children to this incredible school. There are some families, however, who struggle to meet the fee commitments when a job is lost, or a serious illness is experienced. Or a parent feels called to make a choice to take up a lower paying ministry job instead of a higher paying commercial role.
We believe there may be a win/win in this scenario.
If you have something at home that you no longer use and would be prepared to donate it, we invite you to get it out, dust it off and prepare to donate/sell it during August.
The funds raised will be an invaluable contribution to assist families with exceptional circumstances, doing it tough financially and at risk of having to withdraw their child from our amazing school.
As Christians, we are called upon to be responsible stewards of the resources we are entrusted with (1 Corinthians 4:7). We are also called upon to help and support each other and carry each other’s burdens. (Galatians 6:2)
Full details will be published via the usual channels during the next two weeks, but here are some dates to remember.

Want Not, Waste Not sale:
Unsold items listed online:
I’m undertaking to provide four gifts for the sale. Two unplayed vinyl LPs and two Christian books that we have multiple copies of at home. Most likely, there will be more – but these are already put aside.
As a guide, we are looking for items that you can see are regularly listed for sale on eBay and Facebook marketplace. We ask you, as a donor, to be guided by platforms like these to set price points – if you have items to sell, we are primarily looking for donations that would raise between $50 and $200 (as a price range guide).
We will not be selling big items such as furniture or articles that do not work.
