Performing Arts

Drama

Last term was a busy one with all year levels creating some wonderful performance pieces. Year 7 Performance classes presented their final class performances to lunchtime audiences exploring the “Significant Women” in the areas of science & maths, arts & literature, politics, the environment and sport. We look forward to seeing the work created by semester two’s year 7 performance classes.

Our year 9 and 10 Performing Arts students celebrated the end of the first semester with an evening for family and friends. It was great to see such enthusiasm and support for the wonderful work of the drama and music students demonstrated on this evening.

VCE Drama students presented ensemble performances to conclude their Unit 1 and Unit 3 studies. They have now moved on to the solo performances which they will be presenting later in the term in preparation for their end of year performance exams. Congratulations on a wonderful first semester and good luck for the coming semester.

Primary School Lunchtime Concert

Thank you to all our students who performed for primary students from Toorak, Glenferrie and Hawthorn West at lunchtime on Monday 17th June. Our Jazz Band, lead by Tony Hicks, opened the show, then we had our A’capella choir, led by Susan de Jong, sing “Royals”. The concert culminated with a sneak peek of two numbers from our upcoming musical production of The Sound of Music from our two casts: Do Ray Mi (Cast 1) and So Long Farewell (Cast 2).

A special shout out to Isla Kannan and Audrey Taylor for speaking about Year 7 performance and to Siobhan Judge for speaking about our Dance Program. Thank you to Lindy Mumme’s Event Management class for setting up Period 3! It was a wonderful snap-shot of the Performing Arts at MGC.
