Exploring the World of Coffee: Grade 11 Hospitality Excursion

Last Friday, our Grade 11 Hospitality students embarked on an exciting excursion to Wolff Coffee Roasters in Hendra. During this educational outing, students not only indulged in a taste test but also delved into the intricate processes that transform coffee from plant to aromatic brew. Career paths within the hospitality field were also discussed.

The discussion covered a wide range of coffee types, including the distinction between “washed” and “natural” coffee. Washed coffee, fermented with fruit, boasts earthy flavours. In contrast, natural coffee ferments independently until it reaches an equilibrium moisture content of approximately 12 per cent.

A heartfelt thank you to Hannah and James for their passionate guidance as they led our students through the fascinating world of coffee production.
