Book Week News

Scholastic Book Fair

Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will arrive at Scoresby PS this Thursday, 15th August to coincide with Book Week 2024.

The Scholastic Book Fair is a much-loved institution at many schools, including Scoresby PS, and we look forward to being able to give families the opportunity to browse and purchase a selection of wonderful children's books.

The Book Fair will be open to the school community for sales in the school Library between Monday 19th August and Wednesday 21st August - 8.30-9.00am and 3.30-4.00pm each day.  Posters with sale times will be placed around the school this week.  In addition, each student will receive a flyer giving a preview of just some of the titles available to purchase from the Book Fair.

Book Week Dress-Up Day

Our annual whole-school Book Week Dress-Up Day will be on Friday 23rd August. For this day, students may come dressed as their favourite book character or book title or inspired by the theme of this year's Book Week, 'Reading Is Magic'.

The whole-school assembly for this special day will be moved to 9.00am, and will include a Parade of Book Characters. Families are most welcome to attend.

For Book Week Dress-Up Day, we encourage families to make costumes by being creative with what you have at home.  Look around the house to see if you have something that can be adapted into an outfit; use your imagination to re-purpose things like boxes, cardboard, fabric, clothes, etc.

This is not a fundraiser and no gold coin donation is necessary.

CBCA Short-listed Book Discovery

We will be providing plenty of opportunities for to students to discover and celebrate the wonderful 2024 CBCA short-listed books throughout Book Week.  Some levels will be using these books as inspiration in their Art lessons over the next couple of weeks. In addition, some of the senior students will be sharing one CBCA shortlisted book each day with the whole school through a read-aloud session at lunch eating time.

Book Week is always a wonderful opportunity to highlight reading in many different ways...and we will be doing this with gusto at SPS!
