Kitchen Garden @ Maramba

Learning for Life!

Our schools Kitchen Garden program has clicked into it tenth week of operation. A timely milestone to take a moment to congratulate each and every student in the way they have embraced the thinking and skill development required in this area of study.

Put simply Kitchen Garden is real-life science that you can grow, harvest and eat!

At Maramba we always ensure real produce is used and recipes follow the Australian Guide to healthy eating.

This term we have looked closely at food found, grown and prepared by various indigenous communities.

The students  greatly enjoyed learning about cooking tips when preparing foods for a campfire. As well as the importance of bush herbs, plants and insects when food is used as medicine.

We currently have seeds sprouting in biodegradable origami pots made out of newspaper around the school to plant in our garden before the holidays – all in an aim to eventually produce more of our own food.

In support of our whole school Discovery study of Geography, History, Health and Physical Education around the 2024 Olympic and Paralympics games. The students now are exploring healthy snacks, with ingredients that are readily available and easy and safe to make at home.

Thank you most sincerely for the support and feedback we have been receiving from parents and carers linked to the experiences your children have embraced whilst in our school kitchen and garden.  Please ensure you continue to follow our progress via our School Instagram page.
