It has been a fantastic start to the term in Digital Technologies, with all year levels focusing on the important topic of eSafety. Building students’ understanding of how to use technology safely and responsibly is a key priority, and it has been wonderful to see such thoughtful discussions and engaging learning taking place across the school.

Our Prep students have been exploring online safety through stories and song. They enjoyed listening to Jimmy Rees read Swoosh, Glide and Rule Number Five, which sparked meaningful conversations about family rules for using technology at home. To reinforce these ideas in a fun and memorable way, the Preps have also been up and dancing to Lah-Lah’s Family Rules Song. They are also becoming familiar with Duck Duck Moose apps, building their confidence in using digital tools to communicate and create.

Students in Years 1 and 2 have been learning alongside the Mighty Heroes, discovering what it means to be responsible, respectful, and safe online. They have discussed the importance of being an “online detective,” thinking carefully about the information they see, and trusting their feelings when something doesn’t seem right. To showcase their understanding, students are creating eSafety posters using Pages which they will bring home at the end of term.

Students in Years 3–6 have been exploring what it means to be safe, kind, secure, and curious online. Using the eSafety Commissioner’s Be an eSafe Kid resources as a guide, they have been discussing respectful online behaviour, protecting personal information, and thinking critically about what they encounter on the internet. Students are now applying their learning by creating informative eSafety videos using Keynote, combining their technical skills with important safety messages.

It has been wonderful to see students across all year levels building their knowledge, confidence, and creativity in Digital Technologies while developing the skills they need to be safe and responsible digital citizens.
