Wellbeing & Culture

Welcome to Week 4!

By now, most students have settled into new classrooms, routines and friendships. This time of term can bring a mix of confidence and tiredness as the “newness” wears off and expectations increase. It’s a great opportunity to check in on how everyone is feeling and to reinforce positive wellbeing habits at school and at home.

😊 Our Wellbeing Focus: Building Belonging

A strong sense of belonging helps children feel safe, valued and ready to learn. When students feel connected to their teacher, peers and school, they are more likely to:

· Participate in learning

· Take positive risks

· Show resilience

· Demonstrate kindness and empathy

You might like to ask your child:

· Who did you play with today?

· What is something kind you did this week?

· What is one thing you’re proud of?

🧠 Managing Big Feelings

As assessment tasks and learning challenges increase, some students may experience frustration, worry or self-doubt. We are continuing to teach and practise strategies such as:

· Belly breathing

· Positive self-talk (“I can try again”)

· Taking a short break

· Asking for help

At home, you can support your child by:

· Normalising mistakes as part of learning

· Modelling calm responses to challenges

· Helping them name their feelings

A helpful phrase is:

“It’s okay to feel frustrated. What could we try next?”

😴 Sleep, Routines & Energy

By Week 4, tiredness can start to show. Consistent routines help children stay regulated and ready to learn.

Helpful reminders:

· Primary-aged children generally need 9–11 hours of sleep per night

· Limit screens at least one hour before bedtime

· Keep morning routines predictable and calm

· Pack bags and lunches the night before where possible

🤝 Friendship Skills

Friendships can change quickly in primary school. We are supporting students to:

· Include others in games

· Use kind words

· Solve small problems independently

· Seek adult support when needed

If your child experiences friendship challenges, encourage them to:

1. Stop and stay calm

2. Explain how they feel

3. Listen to the other person

4. Find a fair solution

Please reach out to your child’s teacher if concerns persist.

Thank you for partnering with us to support the wellbeing of our students. Term 1 is all about building strong foundations — academically, socially and emotionally.

Warm regards,

Jordan, Kelly and Hayley
