Message from the Principal

Dear parents, carers and friends of EEPS,

Last week ended with the EEPS swimming team proudly representing our school at the District Swimming Sports and a very successful Prep Teddy Bears’ Picnic. The school was so lucky to have a super, life-size Teddy visit for the morning. Thank you to the wonderful Prep team for making the annual magic of the Teddy Bears’ picnic be so special.

Wonderful Year 6 Feedback

Late last week one of our teachers wrote this to all staff:

The Year 6 boys usually like to play down ball on the court directly outside the staff room hallway door. The Year 3 boys got there first today and there was no posturing/arguments about who would play on which court. The Year 6 students simply went and played on a different court/area. Very pleased to see them manage this situation well and independently.

Whilst we have high expectations and always strive to be better in everything that we do, it is really heartening when I hear this type of feedback and thought you might like to see it.

Traffic Safety Around the School

Just a reminder to please continue to take great care when driving around the school as the safety of your children and other pedestrians is of the greatest importance. Also, remember to respect the schools’ neighbours, parking signs and regulations. For new families to the school, please know that the school is in regular contact with the Council and other levels of government to look at broader picture of traffic management around the school, including parking.

Movie Night

As I announced last week, we are excited to be holding our annual Movie Night on Friday 27th March on the school oval. This is a tremendous social event as well as being a significant fundraiser for the school. Tickets are available to be purchased on Compass. We will also need volunteers on the night- please see the sign-up sheet. We are also asking for donations for the raffle and wondering if a new parent could take over the raffle organising, following in the footsteps of Carolyn Melocco, who finished her long association with EEPS at the end of last year. Please let Mary Vescio know if you have the time and capacity. Thank you!

New Developments

Stand Up Project

I am delighted to inform the EEPS school community that we have formed a connection with the Stand-Up project. This is an evidence-based, award-winning Upstander and Anti-Bullying program based around peer support, student voice and agency.  This week all our Year 5 and 6 students were involved in a workshop with some of our Years 6s selected for additional training. This will be putting them in a position of influence to lead meaningful change from within Eltham East. As a group, they will work together to create a positive student voice, teaching their peers, teachers, and families about the bystander effect, and to identify age-appropriate ways to support and address positive behaviour change.

EEPS Behaviour Response Process

We have also been working hard behind the scenes this year to produce a revised and updated EEPS Behaviour Response Process. The foundation of all good teaching and learning is to ensure that processes and routines are established, and teachers use positive classroom management strategies. However, school is the safe place to make mistakes and all children bring a different story and things do happen. When they do, we now have an updated, clear process to ensure consistency across the school, in specialists’ classes and with Casual Relief Teachers. Sitting behind the new EEPS Behaviour Response Process we are developing a ‘Teacher Playbook’ and providing consistent professional learning for our teachers and support staff. We are planning a ‘soft launch’ this term in classes with a whole school focus beginning next term. Please see our new EEPS Behaviour Response Process in the Newsletter and you will see it prominently displayed around the school.

I look forward to Assembly next week when we present the 2026 Junior School Council badges.

Have a great week of Learning and Growing Together.

Kind regards

Warren Lloyd

Principal
