Literacy

This fortnight in Literacy, our Prep students have been busy learning to recognise and read the sounds and letters s, t, a, p, n, and i. We have been practising saying each sound clearly, matching sounds to their letters, and blending them together to read simple words. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing as they read and spell words such as tin, sip, an, and nap, along with many others.

Our Grade 1/2 students have been extending their skills by reading and spelling more complex words such as twist, yelp, planks, and drinking. They have been focusing on blending and segmenting consonant clusters to strengthen their reading and spelling fluency. We were also introduced to the sound and letter combination ‘ay’, exploring words such as say, play, clay, and stray.

In addition, students have been learning about nouns and understanding that a noun is a person, place, thing, or animal. We have a question for our community to discuss at home: Is a playground a place or a thing? We would love to hear your thoughts!

Maths

n Maths, students have been developing their number sense by recognising collections of objects up to 10 without needing to count by ones. They have been connecting numeral names, numerals, and quantities, first within 10 and then extending their understanding to numbers beyond 10. These hands-on activities have strengthened students’ confidence in identifying numbers quickly and deepened their understanding of how numbers represent specific quantities. It has been fantastic to see their growing confidence and enthusiasm during our Maths sessions.
