SPECIALIST

FROM THE TEAM

We have been very impressed with students’ enthusiasm during all Auslan classes. To start the year, across the school we revised what Auslan is (Australian Sign Language) and what being Deaf means (cannot hear).

Following this each year level has explored different topics:

Prep – Colours, Year 1 – Classroom Objects, Year 2 – Feelings, Year 3 and 4 – Signing School Instructions, Year 5 and 6 – Auslan Conversations

Each week in Auslan, students will engage in a range of activities that allows them to practise the signed vocabulary they are learning in different ways. Sometimes this is by playing a board game, other times by communicating in an Auslan Only Zone where no spoken language is used. We are looking forward to continuing to build all students’ capacity to use Auslan to effectively communicate with others across the year.

Please enjoy some photos of our amazing students in action below.
