Year Twelve Ball

This week we celebrated one of the marquee events of our Secondary School calendar,  the Year Twelve Ball! It was an incredible evening at Retravision Stadium. Our students looked fantastic and represented themselves beautifully throughout the night. The dance floor was full, the atmosphere was vibrant and there were smiles all around.

A huge thank you to our Year Twelve parents for their support on the Ball Committee and for their work setting up and packing down on the night. Your contribution makes a significant difference and it is wonderful to see our community come together for such a special event.

The full photo gallery will be released to Year Twelve students and their families on Friday.

Interhouse Swimming Carnival

Our Years Seven to Nine Interhouse Swimming Carnival was held today at ALAC. Students have been having a fantastic time and we look forward to announcing the results soon. It has been especially pleasing to see students stepping up and participating in multiple events, even when swimming isn’t their passion. This truly reflects the strength of our house spirit and community values.

We are now looking forward to the Years Ten to Twelve Interhouse Carnival coming up soon.

More photographs coming in next week's The Anchor.

We held one session for our Years Seven to Nine cohort and another for Years Ten to Twelve. If you were unable to attend and would like access to the information shared, please feel free to get in touch.

Turning Problems into Power: Differentiation in Year Twelve

Differentiation might sound like a serious mathematical superpower and that is because it is! It is the process of finding a derivative, one of the most important ideas in calculus, the branch of mathematics that helps us understand motion, growth, change and the rate at which things happen.

For any student imagining a future in science, engineering, economics, medicine, or data analysis, calculus will be a constant companion. Maths Methods is the Year Eleven and Twelve course where that adventure truly begins.

This term, our Year Twelve Methods students have been diving headfirst into the big three differentiation tools:

• The Chain Rule

• The Product Rule

• The Quotient Rule

These powerhouse techniques appear everywhere throughout the course, so mastering them early gives students a tremendous advantage. And master them they have, through practice, problem‑solving and a healthy dose of mathematical grit!

One whiteboard challenge took their learning to the next level. Students tackled an abstract problem designed to test not only their technical skills, but also their reasoning and ability to choose the right rule at precisely the right moment. Their thinking was sharp, their teamwork was excellent and the results were impressive.

Take a look at the fantastic work they produced below. Our Methods class is well and truly in derivative‑destroying mode!

Supporting Your Child with Mathspace

As a proud Mathspace school, we are always looking for ways to help families feel confident in supporting their child’s learning. Mathspace recently released a parent and carer webinar designed to explain how the platform works, what students experience when using it and practical ways adults can support their child’s progress.

The webinar offers a clear walkthrough of key features, goal‑setting tools and how Mathspace personalises learning for each student, making it a helpful resource for anyone wanting to better understand their child’s maths journey.

We thought this may be valuable for our community, so we are sharing the link below for any parents and carers who would like to watch.
