Environment Club News

This term the Environment Club is looking to re-engage students with correct recycling practises, with a focus on paper and cardboard. Details have been shared in Positive Futures sessions and new signs are being rolled out to remind students of what can and can’t go in the paper recycling bins.

The Environment Club is currently in the progress of planting out an area outside K12 to create a mini-forest full of native plants. We are using the Miyawaki forest method to encourage the plants to grow quickly and beautify another corner of our growing school.

Specialist Recycling Facilities

We have set up recycling boxes for pens, empty whiteout containers and markers (in The JLC, 400 open area, and Library), it would be appreciated if you could drop them into those boxes when they are finished. The more kilos of pens we save from landfill, the more money we can win to improve our school environment.

Did you know that this week was International e-waste day. Electronic waste (or ‘e-waste’) is any item with a power cord or battery. E-waste cannot be placed into any bin. It can be disposed for free using your annual hard waste collection or taken to a waste transfer station for disposal (a small fee may apply).

Batteries should never be placed into landfill bins, as they can start fires in collection trucks and leach harmful chemicals into the environment. Batteries can be taken to Aldi, Woolworths, Officeworks and Bunnings stores for recycling.

Can You Help the Environment Club?

We are excited to be expanding our environment club’s gardening program, creating a hands-on experience that fosters curiosity among our students. However, we need your help!

Do you have old gardening equipment, native or fruiting plants cluttering up your house? We kindly request that you consider donating them to EDSC.

If you have something you would like to donate, please email Nicola Ritchie at Nicola.Ritchie@education.vic.gov.au

Thank you for your kindness and support.
